Team Norse Thunder’s Pokemon Unite roster are gearing up for their first competitive split together after being accepted into the Zapdos Graph Unite League.

The ZGUL brings together teams from across North America and the European region to compete and is currently in its fifth edition. Thunder’s Unite roster has previously played together in Pokemon World Championship Qualifier tournaments, but the ZGUL campaign will be new territory for them.

Preparations for the upcoming campaign have started brightly, with the team’s latest scrim match resulting in a thumping victory over fellow British esports side Team Blaze. It’s also hoped that a team coach will be appointed in the near future.

Thunder’s first match in the ZGUL is set to be against Evil Family next week before attention then turns to facing Squirtle Squad, UwU Gurus, Shin Force, and PokeBros in the following weeks. After the matches are played, the highest ranked and best performing teams will earn a spot in the playoffs - the knockout stage of the competition.

Speaking about the upcoming league campaign, Team Norse Thunder’s Dave Scotford said: “This is an exciting step for the roster and for us as an organisation too. The roster has come on a long way as individual players and as a group as well, so it’ll be interesting to see how things go - we’ll be backing them for sure.

“Being involved in a regular league campaign means we’ll be getting more used to a competitive environment and that can only be a good thing for the group as we head into the new World Championship Qualifying campaign.

“They’ve done really well to get to this point so it’s just about kicking on from here and seeing what we can do in a competitive split. The aim’s really about limit testing for us and figuring out where we’re strong and where we need to build and grow… but we have our fingers crossed for a playoff spot!”
