Semi-Final Heartbreak for Thunder in EUWPL

Alexander-Arnold in FIFA 22

Team Norse Thunder had claimed three of the last four EUW Premier League titles, but it was heartbreak in the semi-final of the latest edition of the tournament as the team slipped to defeat and a 3rd place finish.

Representing Thunder, Dave Scotford won his round of 16 match 71-0 to progress into the quarter-final - a bye round after his opponent dropped out of the tournament. The semi-final match then saw him take on Lectoro09 - the highest ranked player in the EUW Premier League.

Lectoro09 had claimed victory in their round of 16 match with a scoreline of 75-14 before a 58-36 win in their quarter-final. The semi-final match between Dave and Lectoro09 ended 60-29 in the latter’s favour.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the draw, Ardz has progressed into the final after a walkover bye round, an 83-18 win in the quarter-final, and then a 72-10 win in their semi-final.

Throughout the tournament, Dave’s team was: Pope (GK), Alexander-Arnold (RB), Cole (LB), Coady (CB), Smalling (CB), Gerrard (CM), Milner (CM), Maddison (CAM), Beckham (RW), Barnes (LW), and Wright (ST).

Speaking about his performance in the EUW Premier League, Team Norse Thunder’s Dave Scotford said: “I’ve done pretty well since we joined the league and to claim three in four titles is obviously a great start. I think I’ve probably been a bit lucky in places as well.

“I didn’t get there this time around, but there’s a reason that Lectro is the highest ranked player in the league - he has a really solid line-up and has been putting in goals left, right, and centre. If I’m going to lose to someone it might as well be the best player in the league!”
