COVID Pandemic Shifts Thunder Events Online

Team Norse Thunder Players Playing Exodus TCG

With social distancing measures set to remain in place across the West Midlands for the foreseeable future, Team Norse Thunder's community gaming events have shifted online.

In the summer, the team secured a grant to help launch a social enterprise with the aim of helping local young people combat social isolation and loneliness. However, the global pandemic delayed the launch of the community game store and in-person events were put on hold.

After a trial run of online events, starting from October, Team Norse Thunder will run weekly free to play online Pokemon TCG and Hearthstone events, as well as a monthly paid-entry Pokemon TCG event offering up exciting prizes.

Speaking about the change, Team Norse Thunder's Dave Scotford said: "Pre-COVID research showed young people were really suffering from the effects of social isolation and loneliness, and the pandemic is only going to make that worse, for everyone, not just young people.

"We don't want to be sitting back and waiting to do our bit to make a difference - the online events are all about bringing people together to have fun and make friends.

"We're looking forward to being open in the real world with people sat around a table, playing Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and lots of other games, but for now, we have to make the best of online gaming."
