Thunder Players Storm to Pokemon Success
Another weekend of competition on the road has come to an end, and Team Norse Thunder are celebrating as the Pokemon World Championships inch closer.
Saturday 22nd February saw both Karys and Phoebe Belfield competing at a League Challenge at Phoenix Games in Stourbridge.
Phoebe entered the event hoping to keep her run of top ten finishes alive, but defied expectations and took an off-meta Slowpoke & Psyduck deck to an impressive second-place finish in the Masters Division.
Meanwhile, Karys, already on the brink of World Championship qualification, took an improved PikaRom deck to a first-place finish in the Seniors Division despite starting matches with Dedene GX three times.
The final round of the day saw Phoebe and Karys paired off against each other, a match which resulted in Karys' only loss of the day and with results going her way in other games, secured Phoebe the runners up spot.
With a new European ranking of 101, Karys headed to Nottingham on Sunday 23rd February to compete at a League Challenge at the Dice Cup. A storming performance against a tough field of much more experienced players saw her win her three matches with just a single leg dropped along the way!
With Karys earning 30 Championship Points over the weekend, she is now just a top-four League Cup finish away from securing her place at the 2020 Pokemon World Championships.
